How We Source Market Data

Where our prices come from, how current they are, and what they can't tell you.

What the figures are

During this preview period, the prices on Global Market Now are closing or intraday levels compiled from public market reports, such as exchange closing data and published market wraps. Each board shows the time its figures apply to, and each figure says which session it comes from.

Some figures need extra labels:

  • Approx. marks a level taken during the trading day rather than at the close, usually for currencies.
  • Intraday marks a high or low reached during the session rather than the closing level.
  • A dash (—) means we do not have a verified change for that period.
  • Markets closed for a holiday show their last closing level and say so.

Live data

We plan to add live quotes from a licensed market data provider. When we do, prices will typically be delayed by 15 minutes, and each board will say so. This page will be updated.

Market clocks

The exchange clocks and the trading day bar at the top of our pages use your device's clock and each exchange's regular trading hours, including lunch breaks in Tokyo, Hong Kong and Shanghai. We add scheduled holidays by hand. Early closes and unscheduled closures may not appear.

What our data can't do

Our figures are for information only. They are not suitable for trading, and they are not investment advice. Always confirm prices with your broker or the exchange before acting on them.
