Why are European tech stocks rising today?

ASML's results eased some of the AI worries that hit chip stocks this week. The company reported record third-quarter net sales of 11.7 billion euros and net income of 5.0 billion euros, and it expects fourth-quarter sales of 14.2 billion to 15.2 billion euros, its release said. ASML also said its planned supply for 2027 and 2028 will not fully meet customer demand and that it is studying ways to add capacity.

Trading Economics said ASML shares rose 2.2% earlier in the session after beating earnings and revenue expectations; around 12:40 GMT they were up about 0.7%, Yahoo Finance data showed. Infineon gained 1.5% and STMicroelectronics 0.7%, Trading Economics said in its euro area report. Not every market read the warning the same way: in Seoul, the capacity comments fed fresh AI-spending worries, as covered in our Asia Wednesday recap.

Luxury and other movers

Luxury shares rebounded a day after LVMH's weaker-than-expected sales. LVMH climbed 2.1%, Hermès 2.3% and Richemont 1.6% earlier in the session, Trading Economics said; LVMH was up about 0.8% around 12:40 GMT, Yahoo Finance data showed. Insurer Admiral fell 3.1%, among the STOXX 600's worst performers, and Orsted dropped 2.7% after Bloomberg reported the U.S. would reassess the permit for its Rhode Island offshore wind farm, according to Trading Economics.

In Frankfurt, Infineon, Vonovia and MTU Aero Engines were among the top gainers, while Zalando fell 2.1%, Trading Economics said. London's FTSE 100 lagged the continent, with defense stocks BAE Systems and Rolls-Royce higher, it reported.

What are bonds, oil and the euro doing?

Germany's 10-year Bund yield slipped to about 3.45% before the U.S. data, near its lowest since Sept. 9, and France's 10-year yield eased to about 4.82%, Trading Economics said. It added that markets are pricing another European Central Bank rate hike in December.

The U.S. consumer price index rose 3.7% from a year earlier in September, the Bureau of Labor Statistics said. The euro fell about 0.5% to $1.114 around 12:55 GMT, and Brent crude was up about 0.3% at $105.98 a barrel around 12:45 GMT, Yahoo Finance data showed. Trading Economics tied oil's support to renewed attacks in the Middle East, including strikes on Saudi sites.
