CNBC said economists expected 59,000 jobs and a 4.2% jobless rate. August was revised up 53,000 to 186,000 and September up 31,000 to 60,000, a combined 84,000 more than first reported.

Why are Nasdaq futures up and Dow futures down?
Dip buyers returned to chip stocks after Thursday's rout, CNBC said, while higher Treasury yields after the jobs report held back gains. In a post published before the jobs report, CNBC said the CME FedWatch tool showed markets pricing in about a 70% chance of a quarter-point Fed rate hike at the Dec. 9 meeting. The Fed held its target range at 3.75% to 4% on Oct. 28.
Before the bell, Lam Research was up about 13.1% after its board authorized a $25 billion buyback, CNBC said. AMD was up about 8.4%, Micron 8.0%, Broadcom 5.7% and Nvidia 4.4%, Yahoo Finance data showed. Five9 was down about 18.4% after cutting its full-year earnings guidance and announcing a $325 million deal for Level AI, CNBC reported. Enbridge, Moderna, Humana and Vistra were among companies reporting before the open, Nasdaq's earnings calendar shows.
